Beta Gamma Omega Chapter (BGO), chartered in 1934, has awarded scholarships for post-secondary education and has implemented programs to address health and wellness, voter registration, economic empowerment, childhood hunger, art appreciation, college admission preparation, global impact, and the well-being of the citizens of Lexington and Central Kentucky. 

BGO’s current membership is over 100 women of color who are business women, physicians, lawyers, educators, dentists, government employees, college/university professors, and others.  For over 80 years, the BGO Chapter has donated thousands of volunteer hours and thousands of dollars promoting service that positively impacts a large variety of organizations, individuals, schools within the district, and Kentucky State University, as well as numerous women and girls of color who have received scholarships to colleges and universities. 

BGO funds and implements its service and charitable programs through its 501(3) (c) nonprofit organization, Pearls of Service Foundation, Incorporated (POS), whose purpose is exclusively to implement the programs of BGO Chapter of AKA. 

The international Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® program theme for 2022-2026 is “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.”  The international program theme includes six program initiatives for BGO to implement that are designed to advance the mission of AKA and underscore our commitment to service.
